As many in today’s society seek a healthier lifestyle, we are always on the lookout for innovative products that satisfy their needs, both in quality and in price. More specifically, many of our customers, friends, and family members have begun following strict dietary guidelines, some by choice and others because of need. Healthy and tasty substitutes for sugar and for sugar-free products rank high on their list of dietary preferences.

Our rediscovery of Monk Fruit as a healthy substitute for sugar has led us to ZenSweet, a company whose products coincide with the desires of our customers and with our business model. Not only does ZenSweet add to our line of natural sweeteners, but our research shows that its ingredients can help maintain digestive and oral health and may aid in balancing blood sugar levels, too. We are just scratching the surface with this sweetener!

Those who have worked with xylitol, erythritol, stevia and other alternative sweeteners know that some may leave an aftertaste and that recreating a sugar-based recipe with the sweetener can be challenging because the sweeteners measure differently than sugar we are replacing – some recipes end up overly sweet and others may not be sweet enough. We have experienced this ourselves, creating recipes that were inedible and/or disappointing. ZenSweet’s Monk Fruit Sweetener has completely changed this, and we are thrilled!

What’s in it?

  • Proprietary blend of
    • Erythritol
    • Chicory Root or Jerusalem Artichoke (Inulin or soluble prebiotic fiber)
    • Monk Fruit Extract
Yes, that’s it!

So, What is Monk Fruit?

Monk Fruit or Luo Han Guo, grows on a vine within steep forested mountains, native to parts of Thailand and China. It is a small round, green gourd that is almost melon-like. It was discovered in the 13th century by Buddhist monks and is 300 times sweeter than sugar!

Traditional Chinese medicine uses Monk Fruit to help with diabetes and obesity. Did you know it is called the “longevity fruit”? Yes. The area where it is grown holds the most 100-year-old-plus individuals (centenarians) per capita.

How is Monk Fruit Made?

The melon-like fruit is hand-picked during the peak of ripeness, then juiced, and lastly dehydrated, forming it into crystals which lend themselves to a great-tasting and very sweet sweetener. Currently we carry ZenSweet’s 1-lb. bag of Monk Fruit Sweetener. The owner assures us that they are working on a few other sizes, including 3-lb. and 5-lb. bags and possibly individual packets. The 1-lb. bags come in a convenient resealable zipper pouch bag that stands upright by itself and is a great size for storage.
